Rumors that Google, Inc. is working on a version of video site YouTube for kids 10 years old and younger have surfaced, according to reports from a number of tech websites.
The Next Web reported the Internet giant is in the midst of developing a website especially for youngsters. Google officials are reportedly trying to figure out whether video producers and directors would be the creators of the kid's content.
According to The Information, a children-friendly version of YouTube is in the works. Google has reportedly engaged in conversations with certain producers who haven't yet been named, in hopes of wooing them to shoot content for children.
Despite YouTube's current safety features - which block unsavory and explicit content while young people are online - there are still certain features that aren't kid-appropriate, such as advertisements and third-party videos.
The new YouTube for kids would allow parents to access an app on a device that streams videos deemed appropriate for children.
There's also a reported safety feature that allows viewers to filter out any unsuitable content, in addition to an educational video-specific version named YouTube EDU.
YouTube's overall goal is to make a place where safe videos are available for children to watch at all times, free from racy flicks and questionable comments.
YouTube, which will soon celebrate its 8-year anniversary, reached one billion users March of last year. Arguably the most popular video site online, YouTube recently named ex-Google advertising rep Susan Wojcicki as its CEO.
