The Nintendo Switch 2 is expected to arrive in 2024 and has prompted concerns over various new features, including its 8-inch LCD.

As many people have expressed their worries about the next hand-held console, it shows that there is a lack of faith in the innovative Japanese company. It was widely reported that the Switch 2 will have an 8-inch LCD panel.

The rumored Nintendo Switch 2 could sport an 8-inch LCD panel that has prompted concern among onlookers who argue it could be too unwieldy for a hand-held console. (not actual photo)

While that information is not yet officially confirmed, many fans are concerned about the size and display choice for the new console. Those who are critical of the company argued that the rumored display will be way too unwieldy for proper handheld gaming.

However, many of these may have forgotten that the new console is coming from a company that started its life as a playing card maker. Nintendo has since managed to transform into one of the most famous and beloved video game companies in the world thanks, in part, to its willingness to innovate, as per the Notebook Check.

Since the release of the report about the new console's screen size, some users have already shown how it could look when compared to other devices. One showed that there is a huge size difference between the Switch Lite which has a 5.2-inch display.

While the new model looks significantly bigger in comparison, even when put side by side with the OG Switch and the OLED model, the new size could actually be the sweet spot. The Switch 2 would fit in neatly between rivals such as the Steam Deck, which has 7- and 7.4-inch consoles, Asus ROG Ally, which has a 7-inch console, and MSI Claw, with its 7-inch display.

The potential launch of the new Switch 2 comes roughly six years after the release of the original Nintendo Switch. The latter's hardware is fairly outdated now, especially compared to newer consoles that have been released in recent times.

Several other reports suggest that Nintendo's new console could be unveiled in March and become available for preorder around late August or early September. If the latter is accurate, it would coincide with the release of the rumored PS5 Pro by Sony, according to Gizmodo.

Potential Changes From the OG Switch

The rumors about the new Switch console were also supplemented by Sharp Corp, the company that has worked with Nintendo as its Switch assembler. The company said that it was working on an upcoming console and supplying LCDs.

Regarding Nintendo's new console, the specs are not something to write home about as rumors suggest that it would have an eight-core Cortex-A78AE processor, 10 streaming multiprocessors, 8GB memory, and 64GB eMMC storage.

It was also found through GDC's State of the Industry 2024 report that roughly 8% of surveyed developers are now working on games that are made for the successor of Nintendo's Switch console. Sources with dev kits also said that the device would match its predecessor's option to operate in a portable mode.

While the gaming company has never been one to fight to be at the bleeding edge of tech, a report noted that developers saw something much more powerful behind closed doors. This is because the Nintendo Switch 2 could be a device that can run Unreal 5 engine games and even offer DLSS graphics, said Kotaku.
