Brooke Burke-Charvet was fired from "Dancing With the Stars" after co-hosting for seven seasons. She made the announcement on Twitter and was clearly shocked by the news.
"Weird day... Shocking pre-season elimination #DWTS... ME," she tweeted on Feb. 22. "@Tom_Bergeron didn't even read my name. I won't be returning to the show this season."
In response Tom Bergeron, who co-hosted the show with Burke-Charvet tweeted: "@brookeburke Weird day, indeed. Won't be the same without you. Dinner soon. No spray tanning required."
She first appeared on the show as a contestant in Season 7 and ended up winning the mirror ball trophy in 2008 with her partner Derek Hough. Three seasons later she began co-hosting with Bergeron.
"I have enjoyed seven seasons co-hosting 'DWTS' but understand the need for change considering the position of the show at this juncture," she said in a statement, E! News reports. "I've always been one to embrace change and looking forward to pursuing opportunities I previously wasn't able to entertain because of contractual obligations to the show. I've seen my fair share of shocking eliminations in the ballroom but this one takes the cake."
Sources told E! that Burke-Charvet had no idea her job was in jeopardy and ABC didn't tell her she was fired until Friday afternoon. This news comes after another shakeup on the show. Last month, "Dancing With the Stars" announced that longtime music director Harold Wheeler and his 28-member live band was being fired.
"Since season one, Harold and his band have performed brilliant music in our ballroom for our dancers and the American viewers at home," BBC Worldwide and ABC said in a joint statement at the time, US reports. "We are grateful to him and his band for their amazing work and years of collaboration. We wish him the best of luck."
Reportedly the band will be replaced with a small electronic band and sound recordings to "attract a younger demographic."
Season 18 of "Dancing With the Stars" kicks off March 17.
