The Philippine PAGCOR recently introduced its new logo which quickly went viral on social media.

On Tuesday, July 11, the Amusement and Gaming Corporation introduced the new icon as part of its 40th-year celebration.

However, it was criticized by many Filipinos. Now, the new PAGCOR logo is being accused of plagiarism.

New Philippine PAGCOR Logo Accused of Plagiarism

GMA News reported that many Filipinos claimed that the new PAGCOR logo copied the icon of the website called Tripper.

Based on the images online, Tripper's logo is very similar to PAGCOR's new icon; the only difference between them is the color.

PAGCOR's logo is in red and blue while Tripper's icon is sky blue. However, the gaming organization denied plagiarism allegations against it.

Via its official press release, PAGCOR said that the social media posts accusing it of plagiarism are entirely false and driven by malicious intent.

"The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) decries the recent circulation of screenshots on social media maliciously accusing PAGCOR of plagiarizing the logo of a website called 'Tripper,'" said PAGCOR.

Because of this, the corporation decided to launch a fake news probe to further investigate the issue.

"PAGCOR is actively investigating the source of this malicious and baseless campaign and urges the public to exercise caution," it confirmed.

New Tripper Website Used for Phishing?

While others are just going with the flow of plagiarism allegations against PAGCOR, some Filipinos decided to research the issue.

One of them, JJ Vestil, discovered that Tripper is actually a newly-created website.

"Based on my initial investigation, the website is newly created," she explained. The woman added that the Tripper webpage looks like a website created for phishing attacks.

She also provided some screenshots showing that the Tripper website requires users to create their accounts before getting access to it.

Another Filipino, Madam Ely, questioned why the Tripper website was just created after the PAGCOR logo issues arose. She added that Google's data confirmed that the sky blue icon used by Tripper is also newly created.

Meanwhile, others said that although the 3 million peso budget for PAGCOR's new logo is questionable, it is still not right to spread fake news regarding plagiarism.

Many Filipinos were disappointed after knowing that the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation spent millions just to create its new logo.

They are criticizing the logo's appearance, especially the awkward color gradient in the middle part of the icon.

Some Filipino graphic artists even provided their own versions of the new PAGCOR logo, which are better and more pleasing to the eyes.

However, spreading fake news just to ignite the ongoing issue is still unethical.
