The former VP, Pence, has joined the heated 2024 Presidential race. According to ABC News Go, the ex-running mate of Trump has filed his paperwork for the launch of his presidential campaign at the Federal Election Commission on Monday, June 5.

The recently filed paperwork confirms the long-awaited entry of Pence in the 2024 presidential race. ABC notes that the former VP is set to formally launch his Republican nomination on June 7, Wednesday, in Moines, Iowa. His official announcement coincidentally marks the celebration of his 64th birthday.

As per The Guardian, the former POTUS Trump chose Pence as his 2016 running mate while he was still the governor of Indiana. Bystanders suggest that the move sought to secure votes from the conservative and evangelical voices who were wary of the businessman's brashness.

Pence stayed loyal to Trump for the past four years in the White House. But when the former President refused to accept his defeat from Joe Biden in 2020, it made a dent in their unwavering relationship.

Trump's ex-running mate resisted calls for him to refuse to certify the electoral college results last January 6, 2021, which mandates Biden's presidential win. The former vice president proceeded with the certification despite the Capitol mob chanting, "Hang Mike Pence."

Pence says, "President Trump was wrong." He notes that he "had no right to overturn the election," adding that the words of Trump have endangered the folks at Capitol and his beloved family.

The Straits Times reports that Pence's declaration of candidacy filing kicks off his fight against his former running mate Trump.

The ex-VP goes against a crowded field of Republican challengers, including Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

Besides these Republican figures, North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum and ex-New Jersey Governor Chris Christie are also expected to klaunchtheir campaigns in the same week as Pence.

Pence's entry into the race will likely energize the Republican base as he is popular among conservatives.

The 2024 presidential election is shaping up to be a competitive race. Pence is one of several Republicans who have announced their intention to run, and the field is expected to grow in the coming months.

Meanwhile, in the Democrat arena, President Biden formally announced his 2024 presidential bid last April.
