South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott announces plans to form a presidential exploratory committee which many see as a strong indication that the Republican lawmaker will run for president of the United States in the 2024 elections.

Washington Examiner commentary editor Tim Carney wrote of the importance of Scott's attempts to connect the dots between religious liberty and the so-called "ladder of opportunity." He argued that the American Dream was a story of civil society providing the foundation for people to climb higher.

Carney argued that people get the connections, mentoring, modeling, belonging, and human-level safety net using community institutions, thus enabling them to do better. Scott was also said to be voicing his belief that it is a mistake to "indoctrinate our children to believe that we live in an evil country," as the Washington Examiner said.

Scott's efforts come at a time when most of the dominant cultural institutions in the United States are pushing the narrative of a deeply flawed country in its very foundation and laws. But the South Carolina senator argued that America is a land filled with opportunity and pushed back against the idea that it is a land of oppression.

Should the Republican lawmaker attempt a 2024 White House run, he will join the GOP primary race against several high-profile candidates, including former President Donald Trump. Launching the committee would also help him raise more money that he could later use following a formal announcement of a presidential nomination.

The senator is currently the only Black Republican serving in the United States Senate. In a video announcing the committee's launch, Scott said that he would never back down in defense of conservative values that make the US an exceptional nation.

A Potential 2024 White House Run

The senator will use the presidential exploratory committee to measure his chances of success in the 2024 presidential elections. According to BBC, other candidates who have announced their campaigns include former US ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley, former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, and tech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy.

Despite being seen as highly likely candidates, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and former Vice President Mike Pence have not announced any formal campaign runs for the 2024 elections.

In a Wednesday video, Scott echoed right-wing sentiments that accused Democratic lawmakers of weaponizing race to divide the nation. He added that the US is a land of opportunity since he has lived in the country.

Scott spoke during an interview that his decision to launch the committee resulted from weeks of him touring early primary states. He said that in his travels, he found that people were starving for hope, for optimistic, positive messages anchored in conservative values, said the New York Times.
