A grand jury indicted a California dermatologist for allegedly poisoning her husband with liquid drain cleaner, according to the Orange County District Attorney's Office.

According to a press release issued on Wednesday, Yue "Emily" Yu, 46, has been indicted on three felony counts of poisoning and one felony of domestic battery with corporal injury.

California Dermatologist Indicted on Charges of Poisoning

Yu's counsel Scott Simmons states that his client will enter a not-guilty plea. He claims the spouse orchestrated these events to gain an advantage over Yu in divorce court.

Jack Chen, the physician husband of Yu, stated in court documents that he was poisoned with a liquid cleanser and that she attempted to murder him. According to the district attorney's office, Chen installed cameras in the kitchen after detecting a peculiar flavor in his drink to capture evidence as to why his drink tasted strange.

On three separate occasions, Chen has videos of Yu "pouring Draino from beneath our kitchen sink into my lemonade."

Per CNN, Chen stated in one of the recordings that his heated lemonade was wrapped in plastic. According to him, the video depicts Yu "removing the Draino from under the sink, removing the cellophane to discharge the Draino, and then replacing the cellophane and replacing the Draino."

According to the district attorney's office, Chen collected and turned over beverage samples to the Irvine Police Department. The FBI subsequently tested the samples and determined that the substance was consistent with liquid drain cleaner.

According to authorities, the substance caused the victim to develop gastrointestinal ulcers. CBS Los Angeles reports that Chen's attorney claims hours of concealed camera footage are available to prove their case and that Chen is now recovering from his ulcers.

"Our residences should be where we feel the safest," said Todd Spitzer, district attorney of Orange County. Yet, a licensed medical professional took advantage of her husband's daily rituals to afflict him by adding a Drano-like substance to his tea to cause him agony and suffering.

The indictment requires Yu to self-report to the Medical Board of California, which will determine whether she will be allowed to continue practicing medicine. Attorneys stated that "Drano is not an undercover poison. It has a pungent odor and taste and is extremely caustic," She is "looking forward to her day in court when the truth will be revealed."

District Attorney Todd Spitzer of Orange County stated that Yu intentionally devastated her husband's sense of security by tormenting him with poison without his knowledge.

Yue 'Emily' Yu Reported Abuses Husband, Children for Years

Chen's attorney, Steve Hittleman, said that the father had guardianship of the couple's children and was delighted to learn of the indictment. According to court documents, after his wife's arrest in August, Chen claimed she had abused him and their children for years, at one point telling the children to "go die."

Chen wrote in a court document seeking a restraining order against his wife that when Emily becomes angry and screams at the children, she frequently uses a Chinese phrase that translates to "go die."

After Yu's detention, she was released on a $30,000 surety, and Chen filed a restraining order against her, as per Daily Mail. No motive has emerged for the horrific crime. Yu, an employee of the Mission Viejo-based Providence Healthcare system, has had her professional photograph removed from her employer's website.

Chen stated that he and Yu met in 2011 and were married on July 4, 2012. Chen asserted that his wife's behavior altered after the birth of their now-aged seven-year-old and eight-year-old children in 2013 and 2014, respectively. He also asserted that Yu's mother, Yuqin 'Amy' Gu, verbally and physically assaulted their children.

Chen did seek medical attention after becoming unwell but could not specify whether a blood test disclosed the presence of the poison in his bloodstream. Due to the integrity of the case, the contamination occurred over time.
