When discussing how they first met on a blind date, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry couldn't help but grin when discussing their relationship in their engagement interview.
Five years later, the pair has recounted the incident once more for their new Netflix docuseries, 'Harry & Meghan', but fans have found some inconsistencies between the two tales.
Prince Harry, Meghan Markle's First Meeting
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry sat down with the BBC for their first interview after announcing their engagement, as is common practice for royal couples. Prince Harry said during the conversation that "it was definitely a set-up - it was a blind date, for sure.
Prince Harry met his future wife in a slightly more proactive manner, as it turns out. He confesses in the program that he saw Meghan Markle wearing the well-known Snapchat dog ears filter on a mutual friend's Instagram page and asked to meet her.
The couple then began exchanging flirty texts and video calls before setting up a real-world meeting. But many royal admirers were baffled by the fresh information, Mirror reported. Just hours after sharing their good news with the world, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry sat down for an engagement interview where they first discussed the beautiful proposal.
Meghan has now referred to it as "Possibly implying that a royal communications advisor directed what they should say about their love story, they described it as a "orchestrated reality show." The Duchess of Sussex said to Netflix that she was "Harry tried to prepare her for what it may be like as she expressed her "petrified" about hearing that their romance had ended.
Inconsistencies in Prince Harry, Meghan Markle's Tale
The duchess relives her "jarring" first encounter with Princess Kate throughout the course of the first three episodes of the six-part series. Prince Harry, however, threw a subtle jab at his father, King Charles, by stating he was "raised" by friends in Africa.
There seem to be contradictions between the couple's stories and what they have said in the past. These details include how Prince Harry proposed and their first date. The Prince admitted that the first image of Meghan Markle he saw was one in which she had a dog filter applied to her face. The two then started texting after Prince Harry asked a mutual friend to put him in touch with Meghan Markle.
Then the couple went out for drinks, which only "took an hour," but when Harry did show up, the Duchess said he was "refreshingly fun," and the Prince said they had a "great chat."
Fans were left perplexed when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle appeared to alter their proposal narrative by releasing a new image. Prince Harry allegedly proposed to Meghan Markle outside in a candlelit garden in the docuseries.
Before he proposed, Prince Harry ended up getting down on one knee during the evening picnic, according to a picture the couple shared. Just moments after Meghan Markle's now-husband proposed to her, they were spotted taking a photo with Meghan Markle's dog.
The pictures, nevertheless, seem to contradict the couple's earlier engagement narrative. However, according to royal sources, neither Kensington Palace nor Buckingham Palace nor any individual family member was contacted for comment about the subject matter of the Netflix series.
Meghan Markle stated in episode three that she hardly ever wore color in the UK. The Duchess clarified that the primary motivation behind this was to avoid conflict with the Queen and other more senior royals.
However, several photos taken at royal events reveal that Meghan has frequently worn vibrant colors like red, green, and yellow. The pair stated in their documentary that they had not before shared their tale.
But while the Duke of Edinburgh was in the hospital in March 2021, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle dropped a bomb on Oprah Winfrey, throwing the monarchy into disarray. Before their son Archie was even born, the Duke and Duchess accused an unknown member of the family of treating him unfairly. They also said the facility failed to assist the duchess when she was contemplating suicide, as per The Sun.
