Batanes, the newest province in the Philippines, is famous for its unique culture and breathtaking landscapes which make it one of the most sought-after destinations in the archipelago. The islands' stunning nature has been featured in countless foreign television programs and travel articles, making it one of the fastest growing tourist destinations in the country. From diving to hiking to caving, there are plenty of ways to enjoy this paradise on earth, but here are five spots you must check out next time you visit Batanes.

When to Visit Batanes

The ideal time to visit Batanes is when the sun shines brightly and the waters are calm. This usually happens during the months of October and April. March, on the other hand, is usually rainy which might not be ideal for beach-lovers.

How To Get There

Batanes is one of the most beautiful places you can visit in the Philippines. To get there, take a bus to Abra de Ilog and ride a banca or speedboat from that point on. It takes about 6 hours by banca and 3 hours by speedboat. You can also fly via Cebu Pacific or Air Asia Zest Air.

Where To Stay

Pine Island Resort is a great choice for anyone who wants to get away from the crowds and enjoy the pristine serenity of one of the most beautiful places on earth. The resort has twelve thatched houses with wooden floors, high ceilings, and walls panelled with huge windows. It also has a 2 hectare pine forest where you can stroll at leisure or join a guided hike.

What To Do There

You may never have heard of Batanes, but it's actually one of the Philippines' most treasured islands. There are many Batanes tourist spots to visit and the following five are considered some of the most popular:

World War II Memorial Cross: This iconic cross commemorates those who lost their lives in    WWII. It stands on a hillside at an elevation of 1,200 metres and offers sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean below.

Alapad Rock Formation: Hike through thick foliage before reaching this large rock formation that has been carved out by wind and rain erosion over time. The hike is well worth it as you'll be rewarded with stunning 360-degree views of the surrounding mountains.

Balangiga Bells: The ruins where these bells were once housed can be found deep within the forested town of Balangiga.

Twin Lagoon: If you want to see the sea life that thrives off the coast of Batanes, then head over to Twin Lagoon where there's plenty to explore. Be sure to bring your snorkel gear so you can get up close and personal with the colourful fish.

Santa Ana Church: Found along a beautiful stretch of coastline, this church has become a site for outdoor wedding ceremonies.
