The federal authorities are all set to arrest DUI offenders on the forthcoming NFL Super Bowl on Sunday.
According to the non-profit organization Mothers against Drunk Drivers (MADD), the annual championship game of the National Football League (NFL), or most commonly known Super Bowl, is one of the sports events where the most number of deaths caused by driving-under-influence (DUI) is reported.
In anticipation of the game, police officers announced that they are going to set up checkpoints across the country. Officials are requesting individuals who prefer watching the game while drinking to appoint a designated driver to avoid getting flagged down, receiving tickets, accidents and other regrettable incidents.
A designated driver is an appointed person who will avoid drinking alcohol during an event to safely transport his companions' home.
Fans of the teams competing on Sunday-- the Denver Bronco and Seattle Seahawk,-- will be gathering in different locations to watch and see who will win in the game. The sports officials have prepared guidelines and helpful tips for the fans to adhere for an enjoyable and safe game watching. Aside from bringing a designated driver, fans can also opt to leave their cars home or just grab a cab after the game.
Fans can find and hire a designated driver in the Internet for a fee. The Denver Bronco website has a "Designated Driver Program" where people can sign up to drive for others.
Some NFL teams support the designated driver program. Each participating team even has a contest titled "The Responsibility Has Its Rewards Sweepstakes." Fans who will sign up will have a chance to win two tickets including roundtrip airfares and hotel accommodations once selected as the "Designated Drivers for the Season."
This year's winner for the Bronco team is Karin Cambria while Seahawk has not yet revealed the name of its winner yet.
