Apple's interest in sapphire glass for its iPhone 6 screens is widely known but a latest report suggests that solar cells will be engraved in the screen glass to improve battery performance.

The tech giant is widely reported to be flirting with sapphire glass screens for its next version of iPhones. A latest well-researched report from Seeking Alpha analyst, Matt Margolis, has put together the scattered puzzle pieces of the upcoming, unannounced iPhone 6, which goes beyond its manufacturing location at Apple's new 1.3 million square foot Arizona plant.

According to Margolis' post on Sunday, Apple will include solar cells embedded in the sapphire glass screen and backs up his claims with a series of events and patent filings over the last year.

The report mentions that the Cupertino tech giant filed a patent in February 2013, which included the use of touch and solar sensors. Also, the newly announced Arizona plant posted opening for Thin Films Engineer with solar experience, which adds more weight to the solar panel integration in sapphire glass screen for iPhone 6.

According to the report, Apple has already assembled over 100 iPhones with sapphire covered displays. The tech giant has also expressed its plans to invest $10.5 billion in cutting edge lasers during 2014 fiscal year. These instances add up to the next iPhone's display to be different from the traditional iPhones, which use gorilla glass since 2006.

If the new information adds up right, it opens room for new tech integration on a large scale. Solar powered calculators have been around for decades, it is sensible to integrate the technology in smartphones.
