All the fans of James Cameron wondering about the "Avatar" sequels, here is some good news. The four sequels are very much in pipeline and the latest is that Oona Chaplin of "Game of Thrones" fame has been roped in by the makers to play a significant role in the sequels and the production company has also made an announcement in this regard.

Opposed to the fears of fans, the "Avatar" sequels have not been shelved. They are in works and a new face has been added to the cast. According to Digital Trends, "Game of Thrones" actress Oona Chaplin has been roped in to play a significant role in Avatar 2, which is the working title of the sequel. Jon Landau, the president of Lightstorm Entertainment, the production company of James Cameron, made an announcement about her involvement in Spain.

It is said that Oona Chaplin will be playing a character called Varang who will be seen in all the "Avatar" sequels. Her character is important and possesses strength and vibrancy. Also, familiar faces like Sigourney Weaver, Zoe Saldana, and Sam Worthington are returning for the sequels, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. Other than these details, nothing else has been revealed as yet but this is indeed great news for fans who had gotten anxious in the absence of any updates from the makers.

After 2009, when "Avatar" was released, the talks about "Avatar" sequels have been doing the rounds. The original film was remarkable for its animation and use of state-of-the-art technology and therefore, when the sequels were indicated at, fans grew quite excited and have been waiting for updates for a long time. The delays made them anxious about the projects being canceled but with this new announcement, the hopes have been renewed again.

It is worth mentioning here that "Avatar" sequel is slated to release on Dec. 18, 2020. The following "Avatar" sequels will be out on Dec. 17, 2021, and Dec. 30, 2024, respectively.
