Rapper Wyclef Jean was mistakenly handcuffed and briefly detained in Los Angeles, the hip hop artist was mistaken for a suspect in a robbery case. Right after Jean left the studio where he was working he was taken as a suspect.

The musician was standing in the dark near a police patrol car with his hand behind his back. Jean stated that the L.A.P.D has him in cuffs for absolutely nothing. A video was shot while the incident took place but it was unclear who was shooting. Later on Jean posted the video on Twitter stating another case of mistaken identity.

Earlier a man and woman had been robbed at gun point at Sunset Boulevard Intersection, it appears that the robber might have looked similar to Jean or probably wore the same attire. The real robber was described as a black man with a dark hoodie who fled in a gold Toyota. Around 1:25 am Pacific Time, deputies pulled over a vehicle matching the same description. Unfortunately the man appeared to be Jean wearing a red bandana, reported the New York Times.

The victims of the robbery had given the same description of the suspect, Jean's car was driven by a female passenger and he was handcuffed and detained. After the victims told the police that there was no female in the getaway Jean was released.  Later on he was informed that the real suspect was arrested elsewhere.

The entire episode of Jean being handcuffed lasted around six minutes, Jean continued to tweet saying that he was not told why he was handcuffed. The women in the car with Jean identified herself as his manager, Jean's descriptions on his experience circulated on Twitter as an example of how quickly black men are treated as suspects in their encounters with law enforcement officers.
