Yahoo Sports gets redesigned with better user interface and a new “Loops” feature.
TechCrunch reported Friday that Yahoo has updated its Yahoo Sports app to be make it more compatible to Apple’s latest iOS 7 and added a new feature called “Loops.”
The new Yahoo Sports 5.0 looks neat and simple after its share of enhancements.
The improved version now includes new team and player pages with easy access to the latest news, cover photos, and improved football scores page with red zone and scoring play indicators. It also features a league navigation customization allowing users to reorder the leagues to their own tastes.
Aside from the enhancements, the most remarkable change in the updated app version of Yahoo Sports is the addition of the GIF-like feature called “Loops.”
The Loops feature is designed using Yahoo’s IntoNow technology to provide users better second-screen experience. The new feature allow them to easily capture, renovate and share their favorite sports moments as they happen straight from the game page.
In the meantime, the new feature only supports MBL, NBA, NFL, NHL, NCAA and NCAAB. However, makers implied that it will support more sports in the future. Furthermore, the new feature is only available in Apple devices but they plan to extend it to other platforms.
Josh Schwarzapel, Senior Product Manager of Yahoo’s Mobile and Emerging Products, told TechCrunch that they wanted to let fans be in charge of the “highlight reel” rather than waiting for the clips provided by a network or a broadcaster.
He also added that the games are recorded from broadcast and played for users in the app so if they plan to rewind or replay it like the usual video stream, that it is not going to happen.
The free update is compatible with Apple devices running on iOS 7.0 or later.
