Nintendo is considered by many to be the more family-friendly console for a gaming experience. That's why the father of a young boy was shocked to find pornographic pictures saved to his son's brand new Nintendo 3DS that he received as a Christmas gift.
"He went to play his games, not knowing anything was on it, Mayhew said via WAVY News 10. "After a while [the kids] took pictures of themselves and when the picture was taken it went to a file. When that file was opened, there were already pictures on it."
In total, there were 12 pornographic pictures found on the system. According to IGN, the report incorrectly identifies the device as being a Nintendo DS when really it appears to be a Nintendo 3DS (A newer version of the handheld gaming system).
The system was recently purchased at a Walmart retailer in Hampton, Virginia under the assumption that it was a brand new device from Nintendo. Mayhew said he believes the system may have been purchased and then returned to the store. In the time that it was under the ownership of its previous owner the pornographic images were likely put on the device and not removed once it was returned. The images were dated as being saved in early December.
Walmart has not yet commented on the situation. IGN notes that a similar situation occurred last year in December when a five-year-old boy's 3DS had inappropriate photos on it when he purchased it from GameStop. The game retailer often takes in used systems and refurbishes them. Unfortunately, in this case, the photos were overlooked and the device was sold with the pictures still on it.
There's no word yet on whether or not the device was packaged as new and Walmart made a mistake in selling it as such or if Mayhew simply overlooked the fact that it was used when he went to purchase it in the store. Tell us your thoughts on this rather strange story in the comments section below.
