The Nintendo eShop is going offline for 12 hours today for maintenance after receiving many complaints about gamers' connection problems.
Nintendo issued the following statement about the shut down on their official Facebook account:
"We sincerely apologize for the connection problems in the Nintendo eShop. We understand this is taking longer than expected, but we can assure you that providing a solution is our top priority. We are determined to make sure everyone can enjoy all that Wii U and Nintendo 3DS have to offer. In an effort to manage the high volume of traffic and ultimately improve your experience, we are temporarily taking the Nintendo eShop services offline between the hours of 4 p.m. - 4 a.m. ET. Thank you so much for your continued patience. We will keep you updated."
According to Game Informer, Nintendo users have seen a more "responsive" eShop on Friday than what they saw on Christmas, with readers reporting they have been able to navigate the online storefront, make purchases and download them.
However, Nintendo is also experiencing technical difficulties with their Pokémon apps downloads, announcing they had to suspend the Pokémon Bank and Poké Transporter. The company released the following statement about the issue:
"Hi, Pokémon fans. As you may know, we are currently experiencing a large volume of traffic on the Nintendo Network service. Due to the high traffic, we are postponing the launch of Pokémon Bank and Poké Transporter until further notice. As a Nintendo standard, we strive for the utmost quality before launching any of our applications. We truly regret the inconvenience, and wish to reassure you that providing a solution is our top priority. We apologize for the delay and thank you for your continued patience."
