Last week it was reported that Disney had picked up the distribution and marketing rights to future installments of the popular Indiana Jones franchise. While this opens up the door for the company to make a fifth installment in the popular hero's storyline, it won't be arriving any time soon.
According to Variety, it will probably be "at least two to three years" before another adventure starring the beloved archeologist.
"We haven't done anything," said Chairman of Walt Disney Studios Alan Horn at Variety's Dealmakers Breakfast on Friday. "We don't have a story. We need a story."
The original thought was that actor Harrison Ford had agreed to do more films when he signed on to reprise his role as Han Solo in the next Star Wars trilogy. Disney purchased the Star Wars franchise and Lucasfilms earlier in 2012. With the studio now saying that there is nothing planned for Indana Jones, is it possible that Ford's casting in the upcoming Star Wars film has hit a snag as well?
Despite the popularity of Indy, Horn believes there are two requirements that need to be met before a story is given the green light. "Do I have to see it now, and do I have to see it on the big screen? If the answer to both of those questions is no, then we have a big problem. My paycheck has a mouse on it and I take it very seriously," he said.
If Ford does find himself on board for the role, he'll be well into his 70s by the time filming on a movie even beings. Will that be too old for him to be back in action and cracking the whip against supernatural forces and bad guys? Comment and share your thoughts on an Indian Jones 5 with us below.
