260 Pounds of Marijuana Dropped from Ultra-Light Plane in San Diego, California

260 pounds of marijuana was dropped just south of the San Diego, Calif. line very early Monday morning, and border officials have already arrested the two men thought to be tasked with its pick up.

Customs and Border Protection Agents noticed a small aircraft passing into the United States at about 4:15 a.m., according to spokesperson Mary Beth Caston.

A helicopter was sent to the secluded drop site north of Brown Field airport, near Otay Mesa.

When they arrived, agents and crew discovered a flat metal cage stuffed with 10 parcles of marijuana that weight a total of 262 pounds and is thought to be valued at around $157,000, local publication UT San Diego reported.

The cage was reportedly used to hold the marijuana in place while it was tied in place to the belly of the ultra-light plane.

A 32-year-old undocumented immigrant and a 49-year-old U.S. resident were arrested near the drop location. Police suspect they might have been sent there to pick up the marijuana, the Daily Mail reported.

After the ultra-light dropped the package, border officials said they tracked it returning to Mexico.
