Google Inc. has announced new features for its Glass Development Kit (GDK) on Tuesday.
The new features added to GDK, an add-on to the Android Software Development Kit (SDK) that allows developers to build Glassware that runs directly on Glass, is designed to deliver information to users as needed without the need of searching for it.
By means of extra third-party applications, Google Glass will come out as something that is unnoticeably incorporated into the user's daily routine.
According to wired.com, the new GDK will make it easier for app developers to do something in real-time "without having to go back and forth to servers in the cloud" and even when they are offline.
Google, during the introduction of the Glassware, presented new apps from social cooking appAllTheCooks, running and cycling GPS trackerStrava, Swedish app Spellista, Golf-Sight, and Word Lens to reveal how developers can use Glass in delivering immersive experiences, or improve ongoing tasks.
In doing immersive tasks like playing Word Lens, you can just say "Okay, Glass, translate this," and voilà, you'll see a translated version.
However, the use of Glass with ongoing tasks is more appealing. Think that you are driving in a foreign country, and see a signage in a foreign language, just by looking at it with the use of Glass, the words in the signage will be translated and that happens quickly even you without asking for it.
Another app that you can use Glass with is the AllTheCooks app, an app that allows users to follow cooking steps of your favorite food recipes. With Glass, you can simply play the steps back without shifting your focus from your ongoing task. You can stop minding about dirtying your phone or tablet, or you cook book while looking at the steps.
Additional amazing characteristic of Glass is it can flash announcements depending on where you are without even having to pull out the device from your pocket.
