New HUD Display For Your Car's Windshield Will Show Your Smartphone's Most-Used Features (VIDEO)

Many automatic technologies are being built into future generations of automobiles, making smartphone integration into vehicles the coming wave of the future. Now, a new Indiegogo campaign is hoping to add some of that tech to your car's windshield.

The Tech startup company NeXt has build a product called the HEadsUP! This is a visual display that projects the often-used smartphone features most people need while driving such as texting, voice calls and e-mail right onto the windshield of a car as a Heads-up display. This will allow users to safely engage with their smartphones without having to look down or fumble with them while trying to drive.

According to Mashable, HeadsUP! Enables voice dictation and touch-free swiping to let users interact with the screen. NEXt CEO Arnab Raychaudhuri claims the device "significantly reduces reaction time while driving."

Launched last Wednesday, the Indiegogo campaign has raised $700 out of its $50,000 fundraising goal. It's possible some potential backers are hesitant about investing large amounts of money into a technology that is meant to encourage drivers to engage with their smartphone while the vehicle is in motion. However, according to an article in USA Today, researchers have found that drivers who text while driving are 23 times more likely to get into an accident. While the hands free nature of the device is helpful for those who want to remain safe but efficient behind the wheel, there's no word yet on how difficult the new technology makes seeing out of your car's window.

This is probably causing other potential backers to hold off on the HeadsUP! technology until more is known about the legality of it. According to Mashable, In California, for example, a woman recently received a ticket for driving while wearing her Google Glass device. Many states have banned texting while driving altogether, voice command or not. In other words, there's no telling exactly what, if any, impact this new technology from NeXt will have on the future of cellphone interaction while behind the wheel.
