Wolverine 2 Rumors: Hugh Jackman and Director James Mangold Looking To Make Followup To This Summer's Hit

Twentieth Century Fox is reportedly mobbing forward on a sequel to this summers "The Wolverine" and is currently in negotiations with director James Mangold and Hugh Jackman to put the production into motion as quickly as possible.

According to reports from Deadline, Mangold, the man responsible for directing this summer's solo X-Men feature, is working on making a deal to "write the treatment." Veteran X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner is reportedly attached to produce the new film. Many may know that "The Wolverine" was Hugh Jackman's second solo appearance as the gamed Marvel anti-hero mutant that can heal himself and has bones and claws made of adamantium (a fake but indestructible metal). The latest update has fared far better critically than X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

The film went on to gross about $413 million at the box office globally, making it the second highest grossing X-Men film second only to the third in the trilogy "X-Men: The Last Stand." The high numbers on a Jackman helmed Wolverine movie are clear indications that a sequel would be a safe move for the studio, especially in the wake of Joss Whedon's Avengers and the rest of the Marvel universe expanding through films. In fact, "X-Men: Days of Future Past" will do a lot to expand the world of X-Men.

Hugh Jackman has played the role of Wolverine in every single X-Men movie to date (including his brief comedic cameo in "X-Men: First Class"). In total that puts Wolverine at more film appearances then any other Marvel super hero in the new cinematic universe.
