Google previously announced that it is temporarily discontinuing development of the consumer edition of Google Glass with a promise that it will revamp the wearable in the future. It looks like that moment is already close at hand. A recent FCC filing shows a new Google Glass headset that is touted as a device for the workplace, 9to5Google reported.

Based on the available images, it seems that the new Google Glass version did not radically depart from the design language of its older iteration. However, the prism looks larger, possibly for an expanded field of view, according to Scientific American. A hinge also makes an appearance so that users are able to fold the device for storage.

There are observers who are not particularly pleased with the design. "If you wear these on the dance floor, people will run from the dance floor," Jason Calacanis, an angel investor, told CNBC. "These devices really look terrible, and they don't provide that much value."

Google, however, might no longer be worried about this type of criticism. It is orienting the new Glass towards the enterprise market by building a much powerful device, which is constructed to perform best in work environments where the looks department will matter less.

Pricing information is still not available. It is important to note that consumers have earlier criticized Google Glass' previous commercial variant for its hefty price tag. It was sold for $1,500.
