Oculus CEO Brendan Iribe finally broke silence on the much-awaited Rift model for consumers, confirming that the company will deliver a single Oculus Rift for different devices including PCs and Android Phones, unlike several reports that had suggested otherwise.

As eager as you may be to get your hands on the much-awaited 3D gaming reality headset, we are obliged to confirm that there will be only one Oculus Rift for various devices that include laptops, PCs running Windows, Mac, Linux, and also to tether with your mobile device. Despite several reports suggesting two separate versions of Rift eyewear for PC and Android, the latest Engadget interview with CEO Iribe confirms the news.

"We will be delivering a single Oculus Rift which is a tether to multiple different devices. The device is able to tether to a variety of laptop/desktop OSes (Windows/Mac/Linux)," Iribe told the tech blog site, Engadget, adding further plans "to also support tethering to a mobile device."

To further make people want the device more, Iribe said that the Oculus Rift will not require a modern Kepler GPU chipset on Android. This means the device will surprisingly work on a wide range of mobile devices.

While the news plies on excitement, the release date for the Oculus Rift is yet to be revealed. The company said that Android developers are yet to receive Android SDK from Oculus, which according to Iribe will take a "little bit longer."

"When we do release it, and we say it works with this set of devices, and here is the SDK, and here are the demos and samples...when people try them they're blown away with how well they work. It's coming soon, but not ready to release a date," he adds.

In August, John Carmack, the genius behind the Doom and the Quake series and creator of the Rift game, joined as the chief technology officer at the company. Camack also expressed his excitement during the interview echoeing Iribe in the progress of the Rift making.

Expect the device to be unveiled somewhere in 2014. However, nothing is confirmed.
