TiVO Roamio Plus and Pro DVRs Can Now Stream and Download on iOS Devices

TiVO Inc. launches on Wednesday the out-of-home streaming service of the TiVo Roamio Pro and TiVo Roamio Plus DVRs. Users can now stream, download, and record live TV on their iOS devices.

"Until now, your shows have been locked up in your set top box at home," said Jim Denney, Vice President of Product Marketing at TiVo, in a press release. "Now with a TiVo Roamio DVR, whether it's a hotel in Denmark, the waiting room at the dentist office, when you're stuck at the airport, or at the gym, out-of-home streaming gives you the level of choice, control and freedom that consumers have come to expect from TiVo."

TiVo Roamio combines the performance of a DVR, Apple TV, Roku and Slingbox. However, despite of having all of those devices, users are still unable to access everything a Roamio can do.

TV lovers can now watch their favorite shows anywhere and anytime through their smartphones and tablets. The new TiVo mobile experience allows users to do out-of-home and in-home streaming. Out-of-home streaming is possible by simply connecting to a Wi-Fi network. They can also download the content so they can watch it later, see personalized recommendations as soon as they open the TiVo app from their mobile, view programming guides and manage recordings, and do mobile search and discovery to know more about the content being watched.

"The TiVo Roamio has reset the bar for what a DVR can do," said Colin Dixon, Chief Analyst and Founder of nScreenMedia. "Making all that functionality and content available anywhere will allow users to get more value from the content they already pay for, cementing TiVo as the market-leading personal TV solution."

Interested subscribers can purchase TiVo Roamio ($199.99), TiVo Roamio Plus ($399.99) and TiVo Roamio Pro ($599.99) bundled with up to 450 hours of HD content. Existing subscribers will automatically receive the new feature.

The out-of-home streaming feature is available for Apple iOS devices running on iOS 5.1 at the least and will only work one device at a time.
