The Dallas Cowboys are reportedly signing running back Trey Williams from the Washington Redskins practice squad, according to NFL reporter Ian Rapoport.

The Dallas Cowboys released running back Joseph Randle Tuesday, leaving their running back position depleted. In early October, Dallas placed running back Lance Dunbar on injured reserve after tearing his ACL. Without Dunbar, and now Randle, the Cowboys are left to search the league for a running back that could come in and have an impact.

Williams hasn't seen a snap this season, as he has been on the Redskins practice squad, but he was a dominating back in college at Texas A&M. In three years with the Aggies, Williams rushed for 1,343 yards, and averaged of 6.6 yards per carry. The rookie running back scored 19 touchdowns in college and was also a factor on special teams as a kickoff returner.

The Cowboys face the Eagles Sunday night, and running back Darren McFadden will look to get a majority of the snaps. McFadden struggled against the Seattle Seahawks last week, averaging just 3.2 yards per carry. It will be interesting to see if the Cowboys insert Williams if the run game is struggling against Philadelphia. McFadden and running back Christine Michaels will get the majority of the carries this weekend, but Williams could make an impact on this team down the stretch of this season.
