Ring Clock Offers Users Nothing But A Neat Bit Of Technology To Spruce Up Their Finger

The goal of technological innovation is to marry form and function to make people's lives easier, better connected and all around improved. However, sometimes people forget that technology can also be the best way to make adult toys that are just plain cool. Take, for example the Ring Clock.

Designed by Gusztac Szikszai, the device live up to its name and allows those who wear it to get the current time from a ring on their finger rather than a device on their watch.

The time is displayed on the surface of the ring in either an orange or blue LED light, that are surprisingly similar to the colors of the portals in Valve's hit series "Portal." Mashable compares the information on the side of the rings to the effect of the elvish lettering on the ring from Peter Jackson's "The Lord of the Rings."

However, this ring was not forged in Middle Earth or Apeture laboratories. It was launched as an Indiegogo campaign back in August with a $287,500 goal that the team quickly received and exceeded. Ultimately the project got $324,595 as of the writing of this article.

Mashable reports the device is powered by a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, the early adopter price for the Ring Clock is around $195. Once the device hits regular retail stores, it will go up to $250.

The first batch of Ring Clocks are scheduled to be delivered in April of 2014. In the meantime, you can get an early look at the upcoming device, designed to solve no other problems than the problem of your finger not being cool looking enough, in the video below.

Tell us what you think, can you reconcile a $250 purchase for a novelty item like the Ring Clock just because it's cool? Would you prefer to stick with a wrist-watch or perhaps a smartwatch? Comment and share your thoughts with us after watching the video below.
