In most professional sports there are three categories into which players fall—those that are great in real life, those that are great in fantasy leagues and those that are great in video games. This is true in basketball and “NBA 2K14.” So, here are three players that you may not build a franchise around but you could destroy an opponent with in 2K Sports’ latest NBA video game.
No. 1—Nick Young, Los Angeles Lakers
NBA fans know Nick Young as arguably the streakiest player in the league. You’ve probably heard this statement in reference to the Lakers guard about a gazillion times: “He can shoot you into a game and he can shoot you out of a game.” However, when it comes to a videogame, Nick Young can be a huge asset. If you take some time to practice and master his shot, you’ll be able to drop 30 on your opponent by hitting jumpers all over the floor.
No. 2—Jamal Crawford, Los Angeles Clippers
When people think of a video game player, Jamal Crawford is the player that comes to mind. He is literally the prototype for the casual “NBA 2K14” player—you know that one that likes to dribble the ball up the floor, do a cool crossover and press the shooting button or flick the Pro Stick. Crawford’s handles and range make it easy to dance around your opponent before you drive to the lane or hit a mid range jumper.
No.3—J.R. Smith
J.R. Smith is probably No. 1 in the category of players I’m discussing. He has the talent of a superstar but you wouldn’t start a franchise with him. Smith can move through defenders, knock down three’s and perform video-game dunks in real life. If someone can perform video game dunks in real life, imagine what they can do in an actual video game? If you are able to use J.R. Smith—and use the potential maybe even he doesn’t know he has—your opponent is in for a long game.
“NBA” 2K14 is in stores now for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 4. The game will be released for Xbox One on Nov. 22 and PlayStation 4 on Nov. 15.
