Mazda and Nissan Recall: Mazda and Nissan Recall 260,000 Cars Due to Door Latch and Accelerator Problems

Mazda and Nissan announced separate recalls involving about 260,000 cars due to reported door latch and accelerator pedal sensors problems.

Mazda is recalling 161,400 midsize cars in the U.S made particularly its 2009 through 2013 Mazda6 models. The Japanese automaker said that they found out that door latch mounting screws can loosen that was why there were reports that drivers are being warned that the door is opening while driving.

The problem was caused by the improper tightening and uneven door surfaces done at the factory. Beginning Oct. 18, owners and dealers can bring the cars to have it fixed. Mazda will be tightening the screws and will use a thread-locking adhesive to prevent the door latch from loosening again.

Nissan’s recall, on the other hand, is of its M35 and M45 model between 2006 and 2010 involving 161,000 combined units due to defective accelerator pedal sensors. These models were reportedly stalling which was also the same problem with the company’s 2005 and 2006 models. Nissan will be sending notifications to affected customers in the next few days containing detailed instructions on how to have the car issue resolved.

It is crucial that the accelerator pedal sensors get fixed as it the risk to crash increases if the car keeps stalling. The recall will replace the assembly and reprogram the engine control module for free. The recall will begin November.

The good news is that there are no reported accidents yet involving defective door latches and accelerators from the two Japanese carmakers.
