Jada Pinkett-Smith decided to use Facebook to share some wisdom with her friends. The actress, who just celebrated a birthday on Sept. 18, said that she was reflecting on her life since turning a year older and wanted to share some of the things she learned about herself, E! News reports.

"Yesterday I turned a year older, and I reflected on where I have been and where I am now. What I learned about myself is this, when I was younger I was not a good problem solver, meaning I had a very difficult time with dealing with my problems in life. I had many addictions, of several kinds, to deal with my life issues, but today, at 42, I have my wisdom, my heart and my conscience as the only tools to overcome life's inevitable obstacles," she wrote. "I have become a good problem solver with these tools, and I am damn proud. Thank you for all the love that was given to me for my birthday this year."

She didn't reveal what addictions she struggled with or how she overcame them but has spoken in the past about being raised by a mother addicted to drugs, OK! Magazine reports.

Pinkett-Smith revealed that her mother, Adrienne Banfiend Jones was a little older than 12-years-old when she found out she was pregnant. Jones told the magazine that she struggled with drugs until Pinkett-Smith was about 18-years-old.

The actress assured her mom that she used her struggles as a learning experience and "used those things as motivation."

"What I hope is that we all continue to gain healthy understanding that life is really about solving problems, and also about us learning to become masters at solving them," Pinkett-Smith ended her Facebook post.

Pinkett-Smith often uses her Facebook to reach out to fans and share bursts of wisdoms or encouraging thoughts.
