Kentucky Fried Chicken hired a new Colonel Sanders after it originally hired "Saturday Night Live" veteran Darrell Hammond to play the fast food chain's iconic character. MacDonald was also on "SNL" and took over the role of Sanders from Hammond after he was hired just a couple of months ago. The news was announced Monday in a press release from KFC.

MacDonald's first ad was posted to YouTube on Aug. 16 and opened with him as he watched Hammond's previous TV ads as the Colonel. "Hey, that's not the real Colonel Sanders!" MacDonald declares in the video. "I'm the real Colonel Sanders. And this is how you sell chicken," he stated, according to Us Weekly.

In the new ads, the comedian plays a quirky version of Colonel Harland David Sanders, who founded the fast food chain, reported Fox News. "It's come to my attention that there's an impostor Colonel out there. He's trying to be me. That's crazy," he said. "They can't just grab some super funny Hollywood actor, throw a white suit on him, and try to pass him off as the real Colonel Sanders. And I should know, because I am Colonel Sanders."

"Other than not quite looking like him, his voice being different, and his inability to cook the world's best chicken, we thought Norm was the perfect choice to play the Real Colonel," KFC's chief marketing officer Kevin Hochman said in the statement.

KFC originally hired Hammond to play Colonel Sanders in the company's marketing makeover. It is not known why the fast food chain replaced him. Check out the first of MacDonald's ads below!
