After dropping several hints on Instagram and Twitter that he would be returning to the small screen in some way shape or form, James Franco, the Oscar-nominated actor, writer and director, will officially be hosting his own television show about the art world.
Ovation announced on Wednesday morning that it would parter with Franco on a TV show, to debut this fall, that will follow the actor as he follows his passion for art and chronicle his activities in the art world. Franco hinted the news on Twitter and Instagram for a while leading up to the announcement. The show will be called "James Franco Presents" and will air this fall. According to the the Hollywood Reporter the show will give viewers a glimpse into Franco's perspective on some of the passion projects he's worked on and will feature hours of never before seen footage from the actor's personal video collection including home movies, video diaries and documentary footage. The show will feature a great deal of Franco having discussions with his "heroes."
"James Franco is the ultimate artist, so partnering with James is a dream come true for Ovation," said Robert Weiss, Ovation's chief creative officer. "And, since Ovation's mantra is 'art is everywhere,' James is the perfect person through whom to introduce viewers to a modern, more inclusive definition of art."
"This is a show where content dictates form and form dictates content. It is an art show that is an art piece, meaning the show has synched with the rhythms of my life and work," Franco added.
Franco hasn't had a regular role on television since his brief stint on the daytime soap opera General Hospital. Prior to that he stared in Judd Apatow's short-lived Freaks and Geeks more than a decade ago.
