LG and Mercedes-Benz announced Friday that they have formed a partnership to build a stereo camera system for self-driving cars.

The cameras in the system will be tasked with making the driving experience much easier by detecting what's in front of the car and how far these objects are from the vehicle, according to The Verge.

LG announced in an email that it will provide "core components" of Mercedes Benz's future autonomous vehicles.

The system will include cameras from the South Korean company's Advanced Drive Assistance System (ADAS), with other tasks including alerting when other cars change lanes, reading road signs and checking the driver's health status, TechCrunch reported. LG also said its home entertainment and mobile technology will be included in these vehicles.

The partnership between LG and Mercedes-Benz is the latest development in self-driving cars, as Google has been working with automakers on the technology through its Open Automotive Alliance, and Apple is having its CarPlay system integrated into new cars from Ford and Honda to let iOS devices work with vehicles' dashboards for music and calling.

Earlier this week Google unveiled the first prototype of its self-driving car.
