Square Register App Now Works in Four Languages With 130 Currencies

Square is responding to the global adoption of its Register app by making the app available in four languages and 130 currencies around the world.

The move is aimed at making the app easier to use for people outside the U.S. who previously had to resort to more complicated methods, such as using the app in dollars and manually converting it to their local currency, according to The Verge.

Since its creation, Square has been working to help out merchants who couldn't afford a typical point-of-sale system for managing transactions. Catherine Ferdon, a spokeswoman for the San Francisco-based company, said thousands of sellers across the globe have downloaded Square Register for a variety of purposes, such as tracking sales and managing inventory, even before the expansion was announced Thursday.

"Even if it was inconvenient, and not optimized for their language or currency, many sellers have clearly found our software effective," Ferdon added.

The four languages that are now available with Square Register are English, Spanish, French and Japanese, CNET reported. The app, which runs on the iPhone, iPad and Android devices, provides users with a dashboard that shows data on their activity.

Merchants can also use the app to issue digital receipts by text or email, as well as exchange feedback and solve problems with customers. It works with hardware such as printers and bar scanners, and with software such as SumAll and If This Then That.

Sellers can download Square Register now for free through the Apple App Store or Google Play.
