Did "Dancing With the Stars" judge Julianne Hough just out contestant Jonathan Bennett as gay? The 26-year-old ballroom dancer was chatting with "Extra" host Mario Lopez about the show when the conversation turned a little personal.

Hough was saying that Bennett, best known for his role as Aaron Samuels on "Mean Girls," had tweeted at her last year and she got really excited because she thought he was cute.

"He tweeted at me last year and said I had a nice butt, and I thought, 'Oh he's hitting on me - I should try to go on a date with him!'" Hough said.

When Lopez asked what happened, Hough said she found out Bennett is supposedly gay.

"So I was like, 'That's not gonna work,'" she said.

Last week during an interview with Jimmy Kimmel, Hough told the same story but it flew under the radar. Some people were shocked that Hough would air Bennett's sexual orientation during an on-air interview. Others said that it's been long known that Bennett was gay.

In the past there were rumors that he dated Matt Dallas ("Kylie XY") but it was never confirmed. Since then, Dallas came out publicly via Twitter. According to Heavy.com, Dallas told his Twitter followers that he was ringing in 2013 with a new fiancé, singer/songwriter Blue Hamilton.

So far, Bennett has not commented on Hough's slipup. The 33-year-old actor can be seen on ABC's "Dancing with the Stars" with professional partner Allison Holker.
