A Texas teacher suspected of sexually abusing a teenage boy has told police he is HIV positive.

Roger Kessler, a 38-year-old Richardson ISD teacher, was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly broke into a home in McKinney, Texas, CBS DFW reported.

McKinney police arrived at the home in response to reports of a burglary, but police determined that a 15-year-old boy who lives in the home was sexually assaulted. The homeowner caught the teacher leaving the home and was able to pin him down until police arrived.

Once arrested, Kessler admitted to having HIV and that the boy was unaware of his condition, police told the station.

The victim does not attend Kessler's high school, RISD Academy, where Kessler has been a music teacher for the last 14 years. The two met through the app Grindr, a dating platform for gay and bisexual men, according to court records obtained by The Dallas Morning News.

Investigators searched the teacher's phone and found messages he apparently exchanged with the teenager on Grindr.

"My dad isn't home," reads one message sent to Kessler's phone, the newspaper reported. Kessler responded with, "is your mom home right now."

Kessler admitted to engaging in sex acts with the boy on four occasions. A condom was used in all occasions except for one. He also said he thought the boy was a college student, but later admitted he knew he was 15, police said according to the newspaper.

Kessler was ordered held on $250,000 bond after he was charged with child sexual assault, CBS DFW reported. As of Tuesday it is not clear if more charges will be brought against the teacher.

A Richardson ISD spokesman said Kessler, who has "no history of complaints of this nature," has since been placed on administrative leave pending the police investigation.
