Robert Kirkman revealed that "The Walking Dead" spinoff will not have anything to do with his comic books, Comicbook.com reports. According to the site, Kirkman was asked in the letter column of comic book Issue 125 if Issue 127 would feature a new set of survivors.

He chose to respond with "no comment, read 127" but did reveal a few details about the spinoff.

"For the TV spinoff, I'm coming up with that stuff. It's unrelated to the comics. What's happening in issue 127 is in no way connected to the spinoff TV show," he wrote, according to Comicbook.com.

AMC announced the new series last September but since then has revealed very little details about the show. Recently, it was announced that David Erickson had signed on as a co-writer and executive producer, Uproxx reports. Erickson has written a few episodes of "Sons of Anarchy."

Kirkman and "Walking Dead" producer Gale Ann Hurd are also on board. The new series has not been given an official title but it said to premiere in 2015. It will still focus on the zombie apocalypse but will follow "another group of characters, surviving in another part of the world," Kirkman has previously said.

"I'm not scared of that word [spinoff], but it's technically not a spinoff, because we're not spinning off any of the characters," he said. "That's what that term means."

"It's not going to use any of the core cast from our show," Kirkman added. "The show will continue uninterrupted, as if the other show doesn't exist. But the other show will kind of be its own entity."

There were also rumors that the new series would serve as a somewhat prequel to "The Walking Dead" but that has not been confirmed.

"It's important to us that this show exists on its own," Kirkman previously told TV Line. "The spinoff has to be a show worthy of existing, or else we've all sold out."
