Disney Releases Trailer in Eye-Popping New 'Lion King' Movie

Film delves into Simba's orphan dad, Mufasa, who became a king

The Disney company has realeased a first astonishing trailer in the newest of a growing list of movies further developing or inspired by "The Lion King."

"Mufasa: The Lion King" will provide both a back story and a follow up to the photo-realistic 2019 super hit "The Lion King" (which followed the animated mega super hit "The Lion King").

Beyonce Knowles Carter (as Nala) and daughter Blue Ivy Carter (voicing Kiara, daughter of King Simba and Queen Nala) are among the voice cast. It's Blue Ivy's film debut.

The movies, headed for theaters in December, tells the story of Simba's dad, Mufasa, an orphan who grew to be a powerful but compassionate leader.

Mufasa will be spoken by Aaron Pierre, replacing the late James Earl Jones. Donald Glover will be the voice of Simba.

Broadway star composer Lin Manuel-Miranda has written the songs.
