New York City's bravest is gearing up to go head-to-head with New York City's finest, in a nail-biting boxing rematch at the infamous Madison Square Garden.
FDNY firefighter Danny Quinn and NYPD Sgt. Jesse Peterford will jump in the ring once more at the International Battle of the Badges Thursday, after Quinn took home the coveted championship belt during last year's charity fight, according to the New York Post. This year's match is expected to raise at least $50,000.
During a pre-match weigh-in Tuesday at NYC's Mustang Harry's, the reigning champion vowed to protect his title.
"I'm gonna stick to my game plan, I'm not gonna worry about what he's gonna do ... I think you're going to see a similar outcome on Thursday," Quinn told the Post.
"I'm ready to get it going," the firefighter said. "I'm in tip-top shape and I'm ready to put on a great show for the Garden."
Both first responders said they've been in training mode in the months leading up to their highly anticipated reunion in the ring, making major modifications to their exercise regimen, while sacrificing carbs, sweets, and alcohol.
But when the bout ends, one thing the pair can agree on is their plan to indulge.
"I'm a big food guy, so that's the toughest part for me - is laying off all the junk food," Peterford told the outlet. "I love it all. Cheeseburgers, tacos, pizza, ice cream, brownies, cookies. You know, the list goes on," he said, adding that he'll chug a beer, "Thursday, as soon as the final bell rings."
"I'm looking forward to that first beer, once I get my hand raised," chimed Quinn.
Cops and firefighters from NYC, as well as some from the UK and Ireland, will step into the ring to raise money for the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, a charity in honor of FDNY firefighter Stephen Siller, who died during the Sept. 11 attacks.
The doors will open for the Battle of the Badges at 7 p.m., with the first bout to follow at 7:30 p.m.
