Marvel RUMORS: Paul Rudd Talks Growing ‘Ant-Man’ Role In MCU

Last summer, "Ant-Man" defied the skeptics and became yet another big hit for Marvel Studios, crossing $500 million at the worldwide box office. Fans won't have to wait too long to see the character once again, as Paul Rudd will appear in the upcoming "Captain America: Civil War." Such an inclusion is a big endorsement of Scott Lang/Ant-Man's popularity in the ever-growing Marvel Cinematic Universe. Superhero Hype recently sat down with Rudd to talk about his character's expanded role and what it's like to be in the highly anticipated "Civil War."

"I know that when I signed up for it that there was always the potential that they'd do another one or it would tine in in some way, but specifically, I wasn't aware and I'm still not totally aware of how that's the case," Rudd said. "We are doing a second one, so those meetings are starting to be scheduled and underway as far as what it's going to be. We'll start writing it soon."

The follow-up, "Ant-Man & The Wasp," is scheduled for a July 6, 2018 release. Rudd, along with Adam McKay ("The Big Short"), took on script writing duties once Edgar Wright left the original "Ant-Man" project. Along with Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari, the group will be writing the upcoming sequel.

"It's been very easy," Rudd said. "Marvel's been great, as far as if I have something else and they'll work around it. It's not like I'm working on a series which might be a little trickier as far as schedule. I worked on 'Civil War' and I didn't really work on it for very long, but as far as 'Ant-Man 2,' I already know when that's going to go, so you just kind of plan accordingly. If anything comes along that I can film before or after and it works out time-wise and it makes sense, Marvel's been supportive."

It sounds like Marvel has some "big" plans in store for the character, and it's a good bet that he'll pop in the "Avengers: Infinity War" series.

"Captain America: Civil War" will hit theaters on May 6.
