A Tennessee Navy base was locked down Thursday, after a National Guardsman shot and wounded two fellow Guardsmen.
According to USA Today, one of the Guardsmen got into a fight with the other two outside the Navy base around 12:45 p.m. One allegedly pulled out a firearm and shot one man in the foot, then the second in the leg.
Memphis news station WMC-TV reported that both of the victims were rushed to the hospital, but Navy officials stated that they are currently in stable condition and did not sustain life-threatening injuries.
The base was temporarily sealed off for about 90 minutes after the event.
The suspected shooter was taken into custody of law enforcement, and the Associated Press reported that the alleged gunman was a recruiter who had been previously laid off.
Rita Stanback, Millington Police Chief, told USA Today that other members of the National Guard restrained the shooter and disarmed him of his small handgun.
"I'm sure there could have been more [injuries] if they hadn't taken him into custody," Stanback told USA Today.
Naval Support Activity Mid-South is a base located in the town of Millington, near Memphis. More than 7,500 military and non-serving workers are employed at the facility, where the Army houses its Navy personnel, logistical support, recruitment and finance sectors.
