Matthew Mills refers to himself as a journalist; others would argue that he is a conspiracy theorist. On Saturday, Mills was arrested for disrupting the Vickie Soto 5k Race in Connecticut, according to NY Daily News.

It wasn't until Mills, 32, finished the running race that he began to make his way over to Soto's younger sister, Jillian. He began to ask her a series of conspiracy-based questions about the massacre. The police were called when the family members became upset about the disturbance.

Mills was arrested and is facing two charges, second-degree breach of peace for bothering Soto's sister, and interfering with police when he decided to flee and make the police chase him on foot, according to Newtown Patch.

The 5k race was being held as a charity event in honor of Vicki Soto, 27, who in December of 2012 had died while protecting her first-grade class at Sandy Hook Elementary, from the school shooter, Adam Lanza, who murdered six staff members and 20 children, reported CTPost.

Mill defended himself in an interview held over a phone from his jail cell Tuesday.

"I went to the race to specifically talk to her, but I waited until the end, and I donated also," said Mills. "They're making me out to be a bad guy. I just asked one question," he said, according to NY Daily News.

He said he politely asked Jillian the question. Mills wanted to know if Photoshop was used to alter a family portrait of the them sitting out on beach rocks. Jillian and her sisters had been seen in tears leaving the race, obviously shaken up by the ordeal.

"I try not to speculate. There are shootings all the time with no conspiracies related to them. But this conspiracy about the photo has really caught on online. ...People say the rocks don't match up, the shadows don't match up."

He claimed he didn't mean to offend Soto's sister and believes the case will get thrown out.

"I just wanted to put to rest whether these four kids were really there together on those rocks that day or not. It's not for shock value," he said.
