Canton: Standoff Between Man And Police Lasts Four Hours

A stabbing incident between two brothers resulted in a four-hour standoff with the police on Tuesday morning in Canton, Mass. The Canton police went to Washington St. at 2 a.m. after receiving a report of a stabbing. The suspect locked himself inside the home where the incident occurred, according to Boston.

The police found a man with a "puncture wound" in his chest and a woman that was not wounded. The wounded man was immediately rushed to the hospital and is expected to live. Larry King Jr., 49, was identified as the man who locked himself inside the house.

"He threatened the officers when they first pulled up to the scene," Canton Police Chief Ken Berkowitz said, according to CBS Boston. "There was some kind of dispute (between the two) and it ended in a physical altercation."

The local police, together with SWAT teams, surrounded the house to negotiate with King. At 6 a.m., the police were able to get inside the house and found that the man needed medical attention for his injuries, according to the Boston Herald.

King's wounds seemed to be self-inflicted, according to reports. He was airlifted to a hospital in Boston, but eventually died.

Washington Road was closed during the incident.

Residents did not expect an incident like this would occur in their neighborhood.

"I've never seen that on my street before," said Marcia Gaudette, a resident in the area for 36 years, according to the Boston Globe. "It was weird."

A neighbor said that she had issues with King before, but forwards it to his mother whenever it happens.

"I try to take the high road and keep the peace," said the neighbor, who only identified herself as Julie.
