Director Scott Derrickson is set to helm next year's "Doctor Strange" starring Benedict Cumberbatch and possibly Tilda Swinton. To prepare for the mystical Marvel undertaking, Derrickson has been brushing up on the source material and posting his favorite panels to social media. Most of the posts have just been fun nods to famous scenes from the comic, but a recent tweet hinted at something much more important to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Derrickson tweeted this picture of the Sorcerer Supreme meeting the personification of Death in a 1974 issue and indicated that it will be included in his film. This is noteworthy because in the comics, Death is constantly being courted by none other than The Mad Titan himself, Thanos.

Thanos, as we know from both "Avengers" films and "Guardians of the Galaxy," is the giant purple evil guy pulling all of the strings from the background. In the comics, he is in love with Death and vows to destroy the universe in an attempt to impress her. It is his main motivating factor for collecting all of the Infinity Stones.

If true, this would connect "Doctor Strange" with the two-part "Avengers: Infinity War" in a big way. In that 1974 issue, Strange travels to another dimension and defeats Death by merging with the spirit of Eternity. This enables him to become the Sorcerer Supreme and suppress his mortal aging. Marvel could easily tie this storyline into Thanos' and pave the way for Strange to team up with the Avengers. Thanos would undoubtedly have a bone to pick with Strange if he vanquished the life of his life.

"Doctor Strange" is scheduled to debut on November 4, 2016.
