Pandemonium erupted at a screening for the new One Direction 3D concert documentary when over-excited fans rushed the theater doors in an attempt to gain access to the limited-ticket event, according to the Los Angeles Times

The screening, held at a theater inside popular L.A. shopping spot, The Grove, was set to begin at 10 a.m., but directioners began lining up before 4 a.m. for the free, first-come first serve viewing.

While the anxious teens remained calm at first, sources said the chaos began when someone started a rumor the band was actually going to be attending the showing. The false announcement caused the crowd to rush the doors, hoping to secure the last empty seats.

"They charged and went straight past the ticket takers for the doors of the actual theater screaming 'Let us in! Let us in!'" a mother who was at the screening with her 13-year-old daughter told the newspaper. "It took about half an hour before a police car came with two policemen in it. They started palming kids down and shoving them outside."

"When I got inside, the red ropes that block the entrance to the theater were on the floor," said another event attendee. "It was pretty scary because people were tripping on the floor and pushing and stuff like that."

Once police arrived, sources say the situation was controlled and the screening was able to continue without incident.

The chaos at the California screening has reportedly reminded U.K. theaters to implement extra security and safety plans when the film hits screens there in late August.

"They're talking about paramedics too, because we had some girls who were shaking and crying so much they were hyperventilating," a cinema source told Yahoo! News.

One Direction's "This is Us" opens in theaters Aug. 30.
