In some sad news for "Parks and Recreation" fans, executive producer Mike Schur confirmed stars Rob Lowe and Rashida Jones are leaving the show.

"The news about Rob and Rashida is true—they will be leaving the show after the 13th episode of the upcoming season six," he said in a statement. "We've been working on their storyline (on and off) for four seasons now, and heading into this year, with the two of them contemplating parenthood, it felt like a natural time to move them into the next phase."

Season five of the show found Lowe and Jones' characters, Chris Traeger and Ann Perkins, deciding to have a baby together.

"We absolutely love both Rashida and Rob, and will be sad to see them go," Schur shared of the pair's departure. "Rashida was one of the very first people we knew we wanted in the cast, and as important as Ann is to [Amy Poehler's character] Leslie (and vice-versa), she'll certainly never be far from Pawnee.

"Rob we initially thought we could only have for six or eight episodes," he continued of Lowe, who joined the show during its second season for a guest stint and later was promoted to a series regular. "We couldn't be happier that he will have stuck around for 75."

Schur finished off praising the two, calling them "wonderful, funny, committed actors."

"They've been a huge part of the 'Parks and Rec' family, and we think we have a great Pawnee send-off in the works for them," he said.

While Jones has stayed mum following the news, Lowe took to Twitter to express his feelings about his upcoming exit.
"It has literally been a world class pleasure," he said.

Lowe is next set to star as President John F. Kennedy in a new National Geographic special.

"Parks and Recreation" premieres Sept. 26.
