Those thinking about going to their local Apple store to buy the tech giant's new high-tech smartwatch when launch time comes may have to change their plans.

Apple announced Friday that those looking to buy the Apple Watch will have to make a reservation for the device online, even after the day it launches, according to CNET.

The Apple Watch will go on sale on April 24, and customers can pre-order the device starting at 12:01 a.m. PT on April 10, which is the first day that they can try it on. However, they will only be able to do so for 15 minutes.

PC Magazine suggests that Apple may have made this decision to make sure it has the necessary inventory, as well as ensure potential customers know about all of the options for the watch and the bands and style that come with it.

There are other ways to buy the Apple Watch besides going to the Apple Store, such as having the device shipped to your house.

Purchasers can also use the Apple app for the watch to look at different models, sizes and features, which takes away the need to have to check the gadget out in person, CNET reported.

The Apple Watch will be available in three models: the Apple Watch Sport, the Apple Watch, and the Apple Watch Edition. Color options include silver or space gray for Sport, stainless steel or space black for the regular watch, and 18-karat yellow gold or 18-karat rose gold for Edition.

Prices for the Apple Watch start at $349 for Sport, $10,000 for the regular watch and $17,000 for Edition.
