Xiaomi, the popular Chinese smartphone maker, is enjoying glory days in India with back-to-back flash sales of its budget smartphones. The phone maker opened its third sale on Flipkart for 40,000 units of Redmi 1S, the company's budget smartphone. As expected, the sale was ended seconds after Flipkart started taking orders for the phone. Xiaomi thanked its Indian fans for the impressive response.

According to the company's Twitter account, Xiaomi sold 40,000 units of Redmi 1S in just 3.4 seconds. This is a new record for the company's flash sales of Redmi 1S in India. The first sale lasted for mere 4.2 seconds and last week the inventory was drained in just 4.5 seconds.

Xiaomi apparently received 350,000 registrations for Redmi 1S over the past week, BGR reports. The company has mandated the registration process before anyone can purchase the smartphone, which also gives Xiaomi an understanding of the demand. But registering for the device does not guarantee a phone; in fact, the company uses a first-come first-serve strategy. Given the short time window, it is a challenge for an online buyer to make a successful purchase, which has resulted in great fury and frustration among the buyers.

Redmi 1S is Xiaomi's second smartphone after it debuted the higher-end Mi3 phone in India last month. Like its elder sibling, the Redmi 1S offers high-end specs at an affordable cost. It features a 4.7-inch 720p display, 8 megapixel rear camera, 1.6 MP front shooter, 16 GB onboard storage, a microSD slot and 2,000 mAh battery. The Redmi 1S is powered by a 1.6 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor with Cortex-A7 core and Adreno 305 image processor. The phones sells for $99 or 5,999 in India Rupees.

Xiaomi will reopen registrations for Redmi 1S Tuesday, before the next sale on Sept. 23.
