Apple has sent out invites to the press confirming a media event on Sept. 9, a date widely reported as the launch date for the coveted iPhone 6.

The invite does not give any details but the date has already been tied to the launch of the next iPhone.

The invitation, which only reads "wish we could say more," revealed the location of the "exclusive event" as the Flint Center for the Performing Arts in Apple's hometown in Cupertino, Calif., Mashable reported, citing a copy of the invite. The event is expected to kick off at 10 a.m. PT.

Apple's invitation for the event comes just days after a French tech site leaked a promotional artwork of the iPhone 6 showing the same launch date. The tech titan is expected to launch two new smartphones this year, both with bigger screen sizes at 4.7 inches and 5.5 inches. This is the first time since the first iPhone that Apple is opting for a screen bigger than its traditional 4-inch display.

The event is being hosted at the same place as the first Macintosh computer in 1984. The company is also expected to launch its first wearable smartwatch, popularly referred to as iWatch, at the Sept. 9 event.

Apple's smartwatch is one of the most-anticipated gadgets this year, which is expected to up the game in the growing wearable space. Samsung has already gained a lead in this category but Apple's entry will bring the two biggest rivals in a face-off  once again. Other companies like LG, Motorola, Pebble and Sony have also stepped into the arena with their wearable smart gadgets.

As for the upcoming event, Wall Street Journal reports that Apple will unveil its next mobile OS version, iOS8 next month. It has been the company's tradition to launch a new OS version alongside a flagship device.  With less than two weeks left for the event, Apple will attract a lot of attention from its fans.
