New claims suggest the iWatch will be released alongside the new iPhone 6 on Sept. 9, potentially quashing a number of rumors that have spanned the past few months.

Apple has yet to step into the wearable arena, while other rival companies have already flooded the space. Despite this, however, experts have said the iWatch will likely up the ante across the board, challenging leading companies like Samsung, Motorola, LG, Sony and Pebble with its unique design.

Technology news site Re/Code broke the news of Apple's plans for next month's event on Wednesday. The report coincides with previous speculation sparked by Apple watcher John Gruber earlier this month. Gruber said the iWatch would come along with the iPhone 6 next month, then he dismissed it as a mere joke.

Wednesday's report closely follows another piece of speculation by French tech blog Nowhereelse.fr, featuring images of Apple's promotional artwork for the iPhone 6. The date and time on the artwork suggests the launch of the upcoming flagship will occur on September 9. Apple is expected to release iPhone 6 in two sizes, a 4.7-inch model and a larger 5.5-inch phablet.

Re/Code's report on iWatch suggests other possible features, including health and fitness platforma HealthKit, along with HomeKit, the company's new app for smart home devices. A report from earlier this year also suggested the tech giant's plans to integrate new charging methods for iWatch using solar, induction and motion. Another report hinted the iWatch will sport a 2.5-inch curved OLED display with a slight rectangular design.

Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster told Forbes that he expects Apple's first smartwatch to launch in October after iPhone 6's debut next month.
