An official-looking image leaked by a French tech site appears to reveal Apple's iPhone 6 launch date.

The tech giant, meanwhile, continues to remain tight-lipped about the upcoming iPhone 6. But that hasn't stopped rumors from swirling around about the highly-anticipated smartphone. In a leaked image by nowhereelse.fr, Apple shows the launch date of the iPhone 5's successor, in what the site claims to be the promotional artwork by the Cupertino-based company.

The leaked image shows a drawing of an iPhone's front panel with its screen locked. The diagram explains the key features of the iPhone 6, like the functions of volume keys, sleep/wake button, lightning port and its signature Home button. Inside the diagram is a future date set to Tuesday, September 9, which, according to the French website is the official launch date for the device.

The latest report coincides with previous rumors suggesting Apple's plans of hosting a big media event on the same date. The tech site bets the new rendering is authentic, since it came from the "most trusted and loyal Chinese sources" who previously provided similar artwork hours before the iPhone 5S launch.

The promotional artwork of the rumored iPhone 6 features a design similar to the previous leaks. The sleep/wake button has been moved from the top of the phone to its right hand side, while the volume rocker buttons feature a more rectangular design.

But a separate report by MacRumors questions the authenticity of the image after highlighting some notable mistakes in the promotional artwork. According to the tech site, the font used in the artwork is not consistent with Apple's style and the Monday 10 date on the iPhone 5S' artwork card is related to the launch of iOS 7 (Monday, June 10, 2013) and not the September 10 launch of 5S.

Apple is widely reported to be on the verge of unveiling two versions of iPhone 6 with different screen sizes, 4.7 and 5.5 inches. The larger one, reportedly referred to as iPhone 6L, is expected to come at a later date, while the 4.7-inch model will be launched next month.
